Phil - look up "The Mystic Guy" on Youtube.com. He has several (5 i think?) videos on setting up echo mail and the CONFIG (Not batch files) needed to poll and toss mail. I suggest going thru those videos step-by-step. I got set up on my first net using the videos in just a few hours.
