It's also quite expensive these days. The dang burritos that you used
to be able to get several of with the change you find in the drivethru
    are now almost $3. Ridiculous!

We were lucky to have grown up in the age of car ashtrays full of
change, cheap cars, cheap gas and cheap drive-thru fast food. :)

Totally. I could ride my bike to the Taco Bell drive-thru and find
enough change on the ground for at least one, sometimes two, 29 cent burritos! Even when the price kept going up to 59 cents!

I miss that classic jingle, 59, 79, 99 cents for their key items at Taco Bell.

And then AM PM had 49 cent refills if you bought their official 32 ounce bottle back in 1990-1993.

For some reason, I'm really not a fan of ordering food through an app
or a website or basically anything other than talking to a person. It's weird that I'm not, because I love computers and tech and all that
shit.. but I also don't like talking to computers. Giving them commands through a keyboard is sufficient for me... but I digress. People talk
about the deals through the apps and such.. I suppose I don't eat at
fast food places enough to take advantage of those things. When you are saying $9 for two Whopper meals is cheap, I'm thinking that used to be
$6, and it wasn't worth it THEN.

I don't mind ordering through a screen but I'll be damned if I want to
download an app to my phone just to order from a place. Like, McDonalds
doesn't get real estate on my phone by way of an app just so I can order a
    side of fries lol.

What kills me is all the different parking apps I have had to download, what
a total pain in the ass those things are!

Man, I too miss the days where you could gather a whole bunch of loose change or have a few bucks and get more burritos and tacos than you knew what to do with.

My go-to back in the late 2000s was just a bean burrito and a soft taco. I think it was less than $2.. maybe even cheaper.

Now if I get something, it's one of those boxes they offer. Still not super cheap but the best bang for th e buck.

I'm also not an 'app' person. I didn't even end up getting a smart phone until around 2016 when my third LG Rumor died.

30 mile marathon 11 hours, must
eat at least 1 menu item in 9 out
    of 10 locations.
4th stop you need to eat a chalupa
    surpreme or 1 crunchwrap surpreme
8th stop you need to eat a nachos
    bellgrande or burrito surpreme

    vomit, and your disqualified.

    ***FUN***

Is that a real thing because it sounds awful.

I don't mind Taco Bell on the rare occasion but eating it 9 times in one day while also running sounds like hell. LOL

And to top that off, I oftentimes _can't_ use an app, because I've never bothered to change my Google location from the US to Germany, so a variety of apps wind up being region locked.

That reminds me: When Amazon sends me an alert notification (via email or text) due to logging in on a different device or something, for some reason the alert comes to me in German. I vaguely remember seeing a language setting for that quite a while ago and changing it to see what it would look like (and I studied German in high school), though now I don't know where the setting is to change the language for security alerts on Amazon.

There was a local diner, we'd get a basket of steak fries and coffees.
Perfectly fried, crispy on the outside and flakey on the inside - and
    insanely hot.

    Temperature hot, or spicy hot?

I got an air fryer about 5 years ago, and I think it has been very handy. It does a great job with french fries, onion rings, chicken strips & similar snacks & foods. I've even cooked hamburger patties in it, and they came out pretty good.

I've tried chicken, vegetables, and tater tots.. The tater tots were the only ones that came out okay.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Any tips?

I'm not really sure what to suggest, as I haven't had too many things come out dry & not good with my air fryer.. Not sure what I might be doing differently. But sometimes I think the recommended cooking times might be a little too long sometimes (though when cooking meats, you do still need to ensure you cook it enough to kill bacteria).

Some foods have specific air fryer instructions, but some don't. Are you experiencing this when foods have specific air fryer instructions? Maybe try cooking it a few minutes less than recommended. Also, it seems to me that compared to using an oven, the temperature for the air fryer should be less than what you'd use with an oven.

    Hi, slacker.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Any tips?

Most stuff I air fry comes out fine. Cheese on toast is a bit iffy (sometimes if the cheese is too thin it blows off / gets sucked into the fan) but other than that 95% good.

My one recommendation is to use a low setting (bake?) to get everything hot then turn it up to a higher setting for the last couple of minutes to crisp up if you want it crunchier.

    Howdy,

I have to give my air fryer another try... I've used it a couple of times but I feel like everything just always comes out dry and overall not that good.

I think we use our at least once daily, but often more. In fact our main over died about 3 months ago and we havent really missed it.

Its awesome to reheat pizza, heat a frozen (meat) pie, fish, fries, garlic bread, drumetts.

The main reason we use it, is the heating time is 1/2 to 1/3 of using the convential oven. Pie would take 50 mins in an oven, but 10 in the fryer (with a nudge by the microwave for a few mins first).

I've been looking for a new one. I got the Xiaomi one which worked fine but it's too small to handle an entire chicken so I need something bigger. I think Philips makes bigger ones that can handle what I need it for.

I miss having a plain ol' toaster oven. They came in handy when you wan
to make a single serving quickly.

In college dorms, toaster ovens were forbidden, and sneaking them in was
a fun challenge. Now, everyone has a microwave.

What I've always wanted was one of those little 3-in-one deals that have
a 5 cup coffee maker on the side of a toaster oven, and a little griddle
on the top. It uses the upper element of the toaster oven to heat the
element. While they're neat to look at, I doubt their practicality,
unless you live alone without a full kitchen already.
