Any sailors out there? I have been racing keelboats for about 15 years in a beer can league out of my home towns yacht club.

I'm fortunate to live somewhere 'landlocked' so sailing is actually affordable to us mere mortals, unlike many coastal cities where slip costs can run into the thousands per year..

It's good clean fun, and relatively low-impact for those less agile than they once were before, like me - as long as we avoid going out on the *REally* windy days.

    I race a 22ft keelboat type called a 'Tanzer 22'

Maybe this belongs in the 'sports' echo ;).. If you ask the sporty types they will often lump sailing in with 'golf' as 'not a sport' ;)

Although I don't own a sailboat, I always enjoy the experience. Recently, a friend rented
one for 3 hours and invited my wife and I to join him and his wife, as well as another
    couple.

The owner asked which one of us would like to pilot it while he pointed out the different
hot spots along the Tampa Bay.

Very enjoyable for us, so I am sure that this is something that you really enjoy as well.

Do you do tours as well?

Nice! I have been through Tampa's waterfront, there sure are a lot of nice boats!

I generally try to be a 'newbie' friendly boat and take some non-sailor friends out a few times a year, they always enjoy the experience immensely, but it's also a lot of work being tour guide. Above and beyond operating the vessel, you have to be on the lookout for hazards that 'landlubbers' aren't aware of that experienced sailors are second nature to - knowing things like which are of the boat can support weight and which can't where to step and where not to step, when to watch out for the boom about to decapitate you etc :) never a dull moment!
