This is more History of Astronomy than astronomy itself, but if anyone is in Cincinnati(, OH, USA), they should absolutely check out the old observatory there.

It's the oldest observatory building in the United States (1877), the second oldest observatory organization in the US and one of the only places you can use a Victorian-era telescope for free.

Thanks for the tip. I live on the other side of the state in Canton. Will have to check that out next time I'm in that area.

I will have to check that out the next time I am up there. Thanks!

Thanks for this... I'm in the Akron area, but that still sounds like a
    great day trip.

I live in the greater Cincinnati area. Where is this observatory located? It sounds like something I would like to check out.

It's over on Mt. Lookout, near Ault Park (due south of Oakley, basically).

They do several 'after dark' events, which are fantastic, but the institution itself is beautiful enough to warrant a day trip.

For a fun local fact, Mt. Adams is so named because John Quincy laid the cornerstone on the original observatory building. Mt. Lookout, where the observatory currently sits, is named for the obvious.
