Regarding the vinyl convo, I got to thinking about how much more important speakers/room setup are imo.. like if you don't have "audiophile" headphones on your head ;)

I follow this channel Kenrick Sound on YouTube that does upgrades to Japanese-market JBL speakers (wish I had that kind of $$!) and much prefer the videos where they go out and install them for the customer and here are a few examples:

    #1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuk5dAob3gI
    #2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEtv116Y77U

It's crazy how exceptional a difference carpeting, blinds, furniture, everything has on the sound. #1 is quite dreadful, #2 is amazing.

    #3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tn8ud2zpWIo

This one is really nice, but you're really fighting against the wood floor.

I duno what microphone he uses but sometimes I'll throw the audio at my fairly modest good speakers (Marantz HD550) and am quite impressed.

What sort of setups do you guys run (if you do) ?

It's hard to evaluate quality of sound from YT. I think the max
    on YT is 128kbps.

I was impressed with the sling solution for carrying in the one
pair over the floors. But that one had the ugliest speakers,
    imho.

I'm surprised that YT allows the tunes to play for so long. I
thought they would block videos if copyrighted material is
    played.
